New Years Resolutions – 2015

New Years Resolutions 2015

It’s that time of year. Time to decide what my New Years Resolutions will be and how I’m going to achieve them. However, this year I’ll be doing things a little bit differently.

I have some pretty lofty and “generic goals”. Yes, I would like to lose ten pounds and become more organized but there is a little more to it then that.

I think it’s really easy to set up New Years Resolutions for failure (let’s be honest, most of the time they do fail), in order to prevent that; detail is key.

A goal without a plan is just a wish

New Years Resolutions for 2015:

In no particular order…

I will live a healthier lifestyle for 2015. What I want to say is the generic “I’m going to lose the ten pounds I gained” or “I’m going to work out more”. Both of those are true, but I find those to be “heavier and overwhelming goals”. I don’t want there to be a day where I don’t work out and I already feel as though I failed my resolution, because it won’t mean that at all. I’m going to concentrate on my health and wellness as a whole in 2015 (let’s not forget that I’m still figuring out my thyroid levels and my health is #1 priority). Diet and exercise is important for me to reach my goals in 2015 but so is my mental health. I can achieve this big goal by scheduling in my workouts, keeping up with my menu plan and not overloading myself with work. It will take a while to figure out what works for me and my family, but this is the year I find it. Keeping positive thoughts is important and I’m planning on doing a daily gratitude page on my planner.

Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life

I will find a balance between my family life, student life and blog in 2015. This one is not going to be easy. It’s a daily struggle for me to keep The Bewitchin’ Kitchen updated while being a wife and mother AND not falling behind in school (I’m roughly 3 weeks behind right now). I’m still brain storming ideas, but I think I’m going to accept a few more quality guest posts from other bloggers to help me out. I also ordered an Erin Condren Life Planner to help me organize my life on pen and paper a little better and I’m hoping with that guide it will structure my life a little better.

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

I will stay on track with school. This deserves to be a resolution on it’s own. As I just said, I’m already a few weeks behind. I’m going to be honest I never thought it would be this difficult for me to stay focused and keep the information in. I really need to work on this, this was a big investment (financially and emotionally) and I’m not going to throw it away. I’m going to allot specific and non-negotiable time slots for studying, and I’m going to hire someone to help me work on my case studies and help me study for the final exam.

Dream Big

I’m aware that just these three New Years Resolutions are big ones. I do have them broken down a little bit more in a notebook into separate goals to make it more attainable (i.e.: fitness goals, life goals, school goals). New Years Resolutions are just that: goals for the year. You have 365 days to achieve them, it’s not going to happen all at once. That’s something important to keep in mind, especially for myself – I have an “all or nothing” kind of attitude.

On top of these resolutions I have a few more personal goals and goals for my blog. It’s important to always have a goal and a dream to chase.

Do you have any New Years Resolutions? How will you achieve them?

  1. I had no idea you are in school. It sounds like you are going to be busy this year. My biggest goal this year is to finish my book. Happy New Year!

  2. These are great goals and I like how you have grouped them into 3 major areas of your life to work on. I have my health and fitness goals, as do most of us, but I am mostly working on my blog goals. My biggest blog goal is to increase my readership and interaction with my readers. I have really been struggling with these. The first big step I am taking is to attend the BASH Conference in 12 short days! I am excited, yet a little nervous! The se goals are for me and for my blog: PUSH LIMITS, REACH FOR THE STARS, STEP OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE, TAKE CHANCES, MOVE FORWARD AND BE UNSTOPPABLE! I guess I better get to work! Good luck and best wishes for 2015!

    • I have a few goals in mind (increase readership, get a free menu plan started for newsletter sign ups, etc) but I haven’t actually sat down and mapped out what I want and how I’m going to do it all yet.

      Have fun at your conference!!

  3. Best of luck on all your goals this year! Writing them down is a great first step. I’m always scared do that because then I have to commit right? lol

  4. Oh, that balance! I think it’s an ongoing struggle and don’t know if life ever really gets balanced, but we definitely have to keep working at it! Best of luck with your goals this year!

  5. Those seem totally doable to me. I find just writing them down helps. Let’s kick some 2015 ass!

    • I’m a pen to paper person, so writing them down in a journal or planner really makes me feel accountable. Best of luck in 2015 Kyla!

  6. You took the words right out of my mouth! All of these goals are ones that I have year after year minus the school ones but I also tend to make them a little more intense than I should which can be a little discouraging even with the tiniest slip. Good luck in reaching your goals!

  7. I haven’t done New Years’ Resolutions in years… since I decided they didn’t work. 🙂 But I like yours – overall goals for the year to shoot for. These are great goals. I wish you the best of luck! I know it’s tough to balance school, motherhood and blogging – guest posts are a big help. 🙂
