Stain Removal With Purex plus Oxi

Purex plus oxiDoing dishes is my most hated household choice, but doing laundry isn’t far behind. Laundry itself is a monotonous task that actually takes some effort (heaven forbid I have to go downstairs). Then there is task of stain removal, and it never seems to work out for me.

I have always been a fan of Purex products. The Purex line is a regular in my laundry routine, I like them because I have really sensitive skin and I don’t seem to have a reaction when I use their products. My clothes tend to come out clean with their liquid laundry detergents, so I have never really had any complaints. I do have issues in my laundry routine though. I cannot seem to remove stains. I am, clearly, not gifted in this area of laundry expertise.

I was sent a bottle of Purex plus Oxi to review. While I was using it during my regular day to day wash, my clothes seemed to be coming out clean and I didn’t have any complaints. The real test came with my Jolly Jumper Nursing Pillow. My son lives on that pillow, he cuddles with it while he watches TV and because of all the cuddles it receives, it also collects a lot of spilled milk. That particular day, I noticed my son scratched his ear real good and bled on the pillow. It was time for Purex plus Oxi to show me it’s clean power.

Purex plus Oxi can be used as a pretreater, I just poured some on the blood (and any other deep stain) and rubbed it in. I left it for ten minutes and threw it in the wash, with additional detergent.purex plus oxi review

The results are a little disappointing. Yes, the pillow looks better then it did before (my son deleted the before photo on my iPad), but the blood stain (plus a few others) are still clearly visible. That evening I found that one of my white face clothes (that are not for use, they’re nicely rolled up in a Paris basket in my bathroom) was used as a dish cloth while I was away. I was beyond annoyed, so I tossed it in the wash (along with some bleach) and this was my results:

purexplusoxiAgain, not perfect results. There are some left over stains but if you were to have seen it before (it was all dark brown), it was a little bit of a relief. I have it rolled up in the basket, but had it place it at the bottom. It’s a little yellower then the rest.

At the end of the day, the Purex plus Oxi is not a miracle worker, it’s a laundry detergent. It works well at cleaning your every day wash and is gentle on your skin but, in my experience, it will not get out those tough stains.

  1. Good to know. I think for hard stains you need to have a stain remover in your laundry arsenal. Sounds like a great everyday detergent though.

  2. I’m glad to hear Purex Plus Oxi does well for everyday laundry jobs. Maybe not the best for heavily stained or soiled items but good enough for the majority of the laundry – it’s one of my unfavourite chores too 😉

  3. Thanks for writing a review that gives your honest opinion. It seems that boosting products are the way to go to remove tough stains.

  4. I appreciate the honest review. I’ve never tried purex although I have used Oxi Clean products that worked amazingly. Perhaps they needed to add more oxi.

  5. Some are better then none! Glad it worked a few out. Maybe adding a bit to every wash your results will be better.

  6. I’m not sure I’ve seen that product here. My mom recently spilled a glass of red wine all over her beige carpet and I told her to try Oxi Clean. I hope it comes out!
