Gluten Free Apple Pie Bars

These taste just like your old grandma’s homemade apple pie, minus the unhealthy fats and processed sugars. Plus I got rid of all-purpose flour.

What’s the point? Well, in short, let’s just say I ditched all of those unhealthy ingredients your grandma used which were reaaaaally bad for your body and replaced them with highly nutritious, but still very tasty counterparts.

It’s like switching from a diesel car to an electric one… (Hello Volkswagen!)

I won’t lie to you though: This is STILL a dessert. It IS high in calories. But unlike old-fashioned desserts, these are GOOD calories, NOT empty calories.

Win-Win right?

You will feel the difference in how you feel after eating a couple of those. Remember how you told yourself: “Oh man that was good, but I’m good for another year…” After eating a slice of your old grandma’s pie?

Not with these gluten free apple crumble bars.

Nah.

You’ll feel just fine.

What Type of Apple Do I Use for Desserts?

Golden Delicious. These are from experience among the best, if not the best variety for apple pie and apple pie bars.

I was tempted to go with MacIntosh as these are my favorite to snack on and I always have a drawer full of them in the fridge, but I decided not to as they tend to turn out mushy when baked.

How to Serve Gluten Free Apple Pie Bars

Warm. And I love them plain, without any topping. Just like that. Hmmm…

But I guess you could serve them with thick cream or a huge scoop of vanilla Ice Cream, like a traditional apple pie. (But in apple pie bars form.)

The second option is less healthy though, obviously.

How to Make Gluten Free Desserts

In the past, I would be overwhelmed with making over desserts into a gluten free dessert. I would overthink it, and I promise – it’s not that hard. I recommend using this homemade gluten free all flour blend to start or you can pick up a store bought to replace all-purpose flour based desserts.

These apple pie crumble bars use my favorite flours (coconut and almond) and are stuck together with maple syrup – yum. Dates are a great binder as well. You simply have to start experimenting to make it work.
