I don’t always do fun recipes here on The Bewitchin’ Kitchen, which is why I’ve been so excited to share this no churn Dinosaur Ice Cream recipe. I’m excited for three reasons:

  1. It’s super fun.
  2. My son is obsessed with it.
  3. It was crazy easy.

The inspiration behind this recipe was wanting to “Unroll the Fun” when it came to Welch’s Fruit Rolls. They taste incredible (thanks to the first ingredient being fruit) so they always meet the snack needs of my six-year-old (and this pregnant lady), but I wanted to do something fun and different with them with minimal effort: so dinosaur ice cream it was!

See mamas, Welch’s Fruit Rolls are not only perfect for on the go snacks to the park and on road trips but they’re also fun to create with too.

TBK’s Pro Tip: If you’re looking for a fun idea for loot bags at your child’s birthday party: toss in a package or two of Welch’s Fruit Rolls! I also had them on the snack table last week at my son’s birthday and the kids loved it!

Making the Dinosaurs

Welch's Fruit Rolls into a dinosaur

To make the dinosaur fossils I unrolled Welch’s Fruit Rolls and used a dinosaur fondant cutter to create the shape and outline.

Was it perfect? No, but neither are dino digs! I couldn’t fit the whole dinosaur, but I could fit pieces. So in the dinosaur ice cream, you’ll find a skull, a tail, and some ribs.

When I wasn’t cutting dinosaur pieces, or eating the leftover fruit rolls, I was rolling pieces into little asteroids.

You can’t get easier than that.

That being said, be warned: you will eat more Welch’s Fruit Rolls than you put in the ice cream. However with fruit as the first ingredient and 100% of your daily value of Vitamin C, and 25% daily value of Vitamin A and E, unrolling the fruit roll is a-ok in my books.

Want to be a lunchbox hero? Welch’s Fruit Rolls is a common ask from my little boy when it comes to putting together his lunch kit. It’s a nice win for the both of us, he’s happy and I’m comfortable sending Fruit Rolls in addition to his sandwich, veggies with hummus, and fruit. Not only are they fun, but they taste good which helps me out since there is no fighting when it comes to having my son involved with packing his lunches.
