Fresh salads are typically my go-to lunch order, but even I’ll admit that I get sick of the same old thing. One easy way I like to spice things up is by switching the dressing. I still get my veggies in — but with a lot of added flavor!

This avocado lime ranch dressing is one of my favorites. It’s rich and smooth thanks to the avocado and yogurt, and it also features a bit of bite thanks to the lime. Added ranch seasoning brings it all together.

It’s basically an avocado lime ranch dressing Chick fil A copycat… in my opinion, if it isn’t broken, why fix it?

I love it on my Mediterranean chicken quinoa salad, chicken rainbow salad, and Santa Fe chicken salad, but it also goes well as a side to chicken and fish. Or, enjoy it in a sandwich. So many possibilities!

How to make perfect Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing

Blend. Add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Feel free to play around with the consistency here — for a thinner dressing, add more lime juice or water. Now is the time to taste and add some salt if needed too.

Serve and enjoy. Transfer the dressing to a clean glass jar and use it in sandwiches, wraps, as a dip for veggies, chicken, or fish, or simply as a salad dressing.

Pro Tips

  • Opt for ripe avocados: Make sure to choose avocados that are ripe, but not too soft. I typically look for ones that give slightly when I squeeze them. Perfectly ripe avocados will ensure a creamy texture and rich flavor.
  • Fresh lime juice is always better than store-bought: I always take the extra time to squeeze my citrus by hand. I’ve also used lemon instead of lime for avocado lime ranch dressing. The results are slightly less sweet but still delicious.
  • Proper storage counts: This dressing will keep for about 3-4 days when properly stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I like a glass jar, but any kind of airtight container would work. Remember that avocado will brown when exposed to air. I’ve found adding a layer of plastic wrap directly to the surface of the dressing before sealing the container can help with this.

Key Ingredients and Substitutions for Avocado Lime Ranch Chick fil A Copycat

Avocado: Again, ripe (but not too ripe!) is best. I typically select the biggest avocado I can find.

Yogurt: I use natural yogurt, but I’ve also made this avocado lime ranch dressing Chick fil A copycat with Greek yogurt instead.

Ranch Seasoning: I sometimes take the very easy route and buy ranch seasoning from the grocery store. When I do have the extra time, I always make it myself using a combination of onion powder, garlic powder, dried ciboulette (chives), dried parsley, dried oregano, and powdered milk.

Olive Oil: Just a bit to help make the consistency even smoother.

Lime: I use 3 tablespoons of fresh lime juice plus the zest of one lime.

Salt: I never need more than a pinch.

Frequently Asked Questions about Avocado Ranch Dressing

What is in Chick fil A avocado lime dressing?

The main components are soybean oil, buttermilk, water, avocado, vinegar, egg, salt, sugar, and spices. There are many other ingredients, and the list is full of hard-to-pronounce words. I really like to stay away from processed foods when I can, which is why I like to make things like salad dressings myself!

Can I make this dressing dairy-free?

Absolutely! A plant-based yogurt substitute is a great option, such as a cashew-based yogurt. The flavor and consistency will change slightly — it’s best to use something with a neutral flavor so as not to impact the other ingredients too much.

Can I freeze avocado lime ranch dressing?

I have tried to freeze this dressing in the past, but the texture changed so drastically that I’ll likely never do it again. It’s best enjoyed fresh and is so quick to make that there isn’t really a need for freezing.

Tips
  • Choose ripe avocados: Select avocados that are ripe but not overly soft. They should give slightly when gently squeezed. This will ensure a creamy texture and optimal flavor for your dressing.
  • Use fresh lime juice: Squeeze fresh lime juice for the dressing to add a bright and tangy flavor. You can replace this with lemon juice. It will still be tangy but not sweet.
  • Store properly: If you have any leftover dressing, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
